We are convinced that we cannot win in a world that fails. Therefore we put significant efforts into improving the efficacy of food production at all levels of the industry. Given limited global resources in terms of land and water, we endeavor to minimize our use of raw materials and energy, continuously improving our working methods, production processes, products and services. Our manufacturing sites are accredited to ISO14001:2004, or else have implemented the applicable environmental requirements into their quality management systems. All sites operate waste water treatment facilities that are compliant with local regulations. Paying significant attention to climate change, we have been implementing energy saving programs to raise our energy efficiency and reduce our greenhouse gases and NOx emissions. In that framework, DSM’s Scotland-based vitamin manufacturing facility in Dalry was awarded the Carbon Trust Standard certification as part of a leading group of twelve Pathfinder companies. The Carbon Trust Standard is the world’s first accreditation scheme designed to allow companies to measure the carbon footprint of their operations.

We provide the best food, feed, beverage, dietary supplements and personal care ingredients produced in the most sustainable way. Most of our ingredients are essential for healthy growth, vitality and physical well being of humans and animals. Improving the health and well-being of animals plays a crucial role in the production of milk, eggs and any other food of animal origin. We work together with our customers on nutrition and management programs for optimizing the conditions for animal keeping. Through continuing product development we provide solutions contributing to a next level of animal welfare.

We actively seek to promote social responsibility and good environmental performance throughout our business. We make continuous efforts to improve the occupational health and safety of our employees. We also involve our suppliers and contractors in our efforts to improve social and working conditions as well as the safety, health and environmental (SHE) performance in our supply chain.

We aim at business activities and products which empower sustainable development. We support community programs and provide our expertise to help tackle malnutrition in the world. Since March 2007, DSM is the official partner of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the largest provider of food aid to the world's hungry. DSM has also been running its own humanitarian program, SIGHT AND LIFE, for 20 years and has additionally developed the Nutrition Improvement Program more recently.
Within the framework of these programs, DSM provides its expertise, experience and the resources needed to support efficient supplementation and fortification programs. DSM also works with global and local partners and universities to sustainably and significantly improve human nutrition and health by encouraging the generation and exchange of scientific information.
